Awkward & Awesome Thursday

So here it is, once again, Thursday...
I won't lie, I kind of like Thursdays a little because I know it will be Friday the day after & that makes me excited :)
What a week it's been--
Awkward:
-The fact that it's been at least 2 weeks [if not longer] since I've last done laundry & I STILL have enough clothes clean to get me through another week or so [Well, except for my socks, I am wearing two different ones as we speak]
-When I say something to a customer & it comes out wrong & I try to fix it, to only make things worse...such an uncomfortable moment-- most definately awkward.
-So we got a new hand dryer at work & I love the fact that we are becoming more about eco-friendly items [which I am all for], but this dryer always freaks me out when I subconsciously go to get paper towels & instead get blasted by an intense amount of hot air [Not to mention when your bum accidentally sets it off while you're trying to wash your hands]:
*See? It even warns you of it's extreme behavior*
-Having your friend bring her biology book to a hockey game-- but in her defense, this was an AWESOME awkward type of moment-- Ladies, if your looking to pick up guys, bring YOUR bio book to a sports game- Seriously guys, she was a total hit!

Awesome:
-Getting my first massage, seriously, this was one of the best moments of my life! If you live in the Columbus area, you gotta check out my friend Ryan, she's awesome as well as reasonably priced {Especially you runners}! [http://www.relaxingnowmassage.com/services.html]
-Having a day at work where everything just seemed to flow so smoothly, thanks guys!
-My dad being in town
-Getting a letter in the mail from a dear friend.
-Having my mother-in-law come in to town-- Seriously, I am so blessed. She is beyond awesome.

See you all tomorrow!

Breakfast time

So yesterday I didn't post- instead I did lunch with friends, went on an unexpected adventure, & went to see the Blue Jackets game... & I don't feel bad one bit about it cause I won a free chili. Now I am going to go finish my veggie sandwich & my slightly high maintenance drink & maybe I will post more & maybe I won't - I am very unpredictable today :)

Project in Progress, Continue with Caution.

I started my project late tonight & I open tomorrow, therefore explaining why I will not be finishing this tonight...but I am in progress, so pat on the back for me!
Here I am super excited to be working on my project [ignore the hot hair going on here]:
Also, in the process of photo taking, I cut my lip with the needle-- I am so awesomely awesome:
Night All!

Dog Park

So today was suppose to be "project day," but well that didn't happen. Today was just too much other great stuff to waste it by myself indoors. It was a fabulous day of Starbuck visit to see friends, church, Chipotle with an awesome couple, time with my wonderful father, FOOD, & some good music at a coffee shop. Mmmm I love good Sundays.
Also, we went to the dog park; probably one of the coolest places to take your pups-- if you live in the groveport area you should check this one out- it's right off of Williams Road & it is such a great way to socialize your dog plus get them TONS of exercise! [& your pups will love you for it]

Time with the husband..

So being married is awesome- plain & simple, I love it! It's so great to live with your best friend & to have someone you can confide in after a long, hard day- someone to laugh & joke around with- to have someone who just GETS you. But as awesome as it is, there's still things you have to adjust to [obviously these type of things come in general living with someone else], such learning each others different mannerisms...& hair on the sink:
OH MAN. This is definitely one of those things it takes getting use to-- but thankfully I have just as many "things" that D.'s getting use to so I guess it balances itself out.

Tonight I finally get to see my husband! We haven't really had time to spend together this week because of work-- I haven't seen him at all pretty much over the last couple of days! So tonight is date night & I am excited! I'm actually trying to get this in while he grabs a quick shower so no project tonight, but you'll see something fabulous tomorrow-- I SWEAR!

With that said, please excuse me while I chase my pup down to get the banana peel from his mouth.

HAPPY WEEKEND EVERYONE!

Smoothies & Friday Night Live

Today I was craving something delicious but knew I wanted to stick with something healthy because of all the chips I had ate earlier [Don't judge!]. I came up with this recipe that's super quick, super easy, & super delicious!
All you need is:
One banana
1 cup of vanilla yogurt [My personal favorite is Dannon All Natural]
A handful of strawberries & blackberries [Or whatever your personal favorite fruits might be]
1 tablespoon of sugar for sweetness [Or for a healthier option opt for honey-- sugar also can be less or more depending on taste]
1 cup of ice
Simply cut up fruits, add ingredients, & blend together.

Tonight D. is putting on FNL for one of his activities for student development. FNL is a spin-off version of Saturday Night Live; it's a little cleaner & unfortunately doesn't have Andy Sandberg. I'm so excited to see it-- the cast is rad & they always do such a good job!
I just wanted to share his promo pic because I think he's so cute :)
Ignore the date: That was his old one :) Isn't he cute though?

Awesome & Awkward Thursday

So as most of you know, I work at Starbucks.
My job's pretty rad, I won't lie--
But today in general, I have had some pretty awkward/awesome moments:
Awkward--
Dancing in the drive-thru because I'm bored/antsy to look over to see customers giving me super awkward glances. I don't think they understand my eccentric behaviors.
Clumsy moments, today especially-- I broke a cup right when my lunch was ending, Poured half a container of coffee beans all over, & to top it off, dropped soy all over the floor. So. Much. Fun.
Today I felt crazily insane & I wasn't the only one who noticed...so did all the customers...& they thought they should share with me that I "wasn't quite myself today,"....thanks? How do they always seem to know?
These socks:
My mother would be ashamed.
Awesome--
Having awesome friends at work who understand my awkwardness & loving me anyways. {& just are just as awkward as I am.}-- they're FABULOUS...So are those awesome regulars I love :)
Singing random sounds [yes, I said singing] to have others join in with me & it all some how making perfect sense.
Working all morning as it was gloomy and disguisting out to come home to finally have it beautiful & sunny outside...simply glorious my darlings.
Getting to share the pretty outdoors with my pups.
I hope you all were able to enjoy the day as much as I did, see you tomorrow :)

What Not to Wear Fashion Disaster

Today I survived a storm to feed my husband.
Okay, so it was not really that bad of a storm,
but my husband really was hungry & I had no food in the house to feed him.
Let me tell you, I love that boy--
I love him enough to go shopping when I'm super tired--
I love him enough to go when it's storming outside [on my behalf, there was a tornado warning for our county-- D. told me I would be fine probably]--
I even love that boy enough to go grocery shopping in my sweats--

So here am I headed off on my grocery shopping adventure:

I just had to share.
After seeing this, I'm surprised I haven't been put on What Not to Wear…
Stacey & Clinton would be so disappointed--
They are always saying that wearing sweats out & about are always a fashion NO-NO.
Well Stacey & Clinton, I wear sweats to the grocery store & I am not ashamed!
[...I'm just super lazy]

Potato Chips & Cookies Galore

So today I was not very good eating wise, butttt I did run so I feel that can be justified!
I really wanted potato chips today- except, I did not have potato chips,
So I made some:

Rad right?

Here's the easy way to make your own at home:

Cut up your potatoes-- The thinner the better!

Heat up some olive oil-- Add potato slices-- I tried to keep them mostly flat out in the pan so that they wouldn't stick together-- The crispier they get, the better they are!

Lay out the cooked chips on the papertowels to soak up any excess oils.

I also topped off the homemade chips with a DELICIOUS avacado sandwich-- a great substitute for vegetarians to replace lunch meat-- it may be higher in fat but it's good fats & so good for you!

I also made chocolate chip cookies and if you work with me tomorrow, there will be some for you! :)
[What a great incentive for coming to work!]

Monday Blahs & New Project Ideas.

Monday Blahhhhhhs--
I wish I had something exciting to write about, but well, today was kind of uneventful-
Lazy time with the pups.
7 mile run for training time.
Work.
& Home again to start it all over tomorrow.
Exciting, right?

Here's my DIY project inspiration for this week:

Good Thing: T-Shirt Bag

Turning an old T-shirt into reusable grocery bags/purses

I'm super excited to try this!
See you tomorrow with hopefully something awesome & eventful.

Soap Dish.

Ladies & Gents, I finally have a soap dish...and it was not an easy task by any means to come up with a cheap, fun idea. I was lacking creativity this week & I almost did not complete my DIY project but I am proud to say I finished! Take a look:

This was not what I had originally planned-- I was going to do something interesting with twigs from outside but my vision did not go as planned and the twig idea was a total flop. Thank goodness for good friends  helping me come up with some neat ideas; they came up with doing things like melting crayons [which I still think I'm going to use for another project] to molds to paper mache. Cookie reminded me that Lowes was right by so I ended up going there to get some inspiration. Altogether my project really only cost me $.50 [I left out cost of the glue I used to put the pieces together because I am using the glue itself for several other projects-- The ceramic pots only cost me $.25 a piece!] To make your own soap dish here is what you will need: Cardboard, a ceramic pot, some sort of adhesive glue, & a gloss spray to go over the final piece [& spray paint if you choose to add color or texture].
&& Here we go:

I washed out all the old plant debris from the ceramic cups,

Put them in a metal bowl

& went to town clobbering them to death.

Then I just started glueing them on however I pleased-- Kind of working the pieces together like a puzzle

Gave them a quick spray of clear coating-- Let it dry

Then I found the color I wanted & sprayed it off [I had to do this quite a few times because of the ceramics previous paint job-- paint did not want to stick very well]

& I gave it another clear gloss coat
I'll show you tomorrow what it looks like with the soap on it since it's still kind of sticky.

On other accounts of the day, here is the awesome jacket I bought from the thrift store last week- I absolutely LOVE it:

Also, I bought lipstick today.
To most, this would not be any means of significance, but I don't wear lipstick.
However, today I decided I should.
I feel like such a grown up.
On a non-grown up topic-- I had Lucky Charms today,
I ate all the cereal first and left the marshmellows for last & I'm not ashamed.

My Home at 4 AM...

This is what I see when I am getting ready to leave my home in the early morning hours (photos from the last two mornings) -- I love them:

3.18.2011

I can't wait to share my new ideas for this stinking soap dish or this awesome weekend I'm about to share with friends - more later- too tired tonight -- have an awesome Saturday :)

3.17.2011

Frustrated.

I was going to make a soap dish today, in fact I kind of did, but I didn't like it...
So I guess I am just going to try again this weekend
I still have 3 full days left until the week is over.
Still time to complete my goal!

BTW: Happy St. Patty's day everyone!
Enjoy this day full of green! :)

Landrollers...

So I have my first half marathon for the season coming up in about a month.
& I kind of have been putting off training...
I have been blaming the weather for why I haven't really started my training.
Well today was beautiful and I did not really have much of an excuse--
...so today I started my training.
It was actually really fun because the husband was home & the dogs needed walked,
So Dave grabbed his landrollers & joined me outside.
So you're probably wondering, well hey Heidi, what are Landrollers anyway?
THESE are Landrollers:

Aren't they sweet?
They're roller blades only cooler.
They are awesome because they roll a lot smoother, give better control, and have the ability to make sharper turns.
Plus, they just look cool. [& are a great conversation piece]
Ever since we decided a year ago that we REALLY wanted a dog
we began to watch the Dog Whisperer so we could become amazing dog parents.
From there Dave decided he NEEDED roller blades just like Caesar from the Dog Whisperer {AKA Landrollers}
Well for my Lover's birthday, I surprised him with these bad boys--
This was him first trying them out when he got them in:

& this was us today after a six mile adventure- I ran, the pups ran, Dave rolled:

Thrifting

Oh I love thrifting
& last night I found out Kara had never really been.
So I decided this HAD to change.
So guess what we did?
WENT THRIFTING!
& guess what I got for $30?
All this sweet stuff:

Yes that's right: A new dress, pencil skirt, sweater, jacket, belt, & shoes all for $30!
I can't wait to show you all these as awesome little outfits :)
Plus while we were there we met a crazy lady.
We heard about all her humps and lumps she use to have back in the day-
We heard about how she didn't believe we were really 23 {I told her we just kept our youth really well}-
We heard about how she was a beauty queen back in 6th grade-
& the whole time, poor Brittany kept getting touched on the shoulder by the creepy lady
& I kept getting awkward stares from the crazy.
Then we ran as fast as we could down the aisle to get away from her
& kept running from her every time she found us.
I guess that's what you get for thrifting in the scarier areas of Columbus.

The rest of my day of consisted of this:

See you all tomorrow with hopefully progression towards a soap dish.

A in-depth look into our Pinhoti adventures.

First off, before I begin the story of our amazing quest, I want to share with you a funny little story that happened tonight:
Dave and I were out walking the pups this evening; as usual, I had a little doggy mess to clean up and lucky for me, I had a grocery bag in hand to clean up the mess and continue on our journey. As we walked down the sidewalks, Dave looks over and noticed that I was carrying the bag in hand, he suggested that I throw the bag in one of the trashcans outside so I wouldn't have to continue to carry this ALL the way back to the house. I freaked a little and asked if it was legal, he said sure. I look around, and no one was outside, I mean NO ONE. As my bag flies in mid-air towards the trashcan, guess what happens- the owner of this trashcan comes outside! Embarrassingly, I refuse to look at this man, I mean what do you do when you're caught throwing your dog poo into another person's trashcan? Maybe most would look over and give a sheepish grin of apologetics, but what do I do? I RAN. I ran far far away and didn't look back until the man was back in the house. Oh. My. Word. That was an embarrassing adventure.

So since that is out of my system, let me give you the fun details of our crazy time on the Pinhoti...

I guess the best place to start the story of this quest is T minus 2 hours until our departure: at this point, we are all meeting at the house-- doing our last bit of prep and packing [well, except Ean, he actually came ready] & having competitions to see who's bag weighed the less-- I'm pretty sure Kara & I won coming in at 20lbs with Jake, Ean, and Dave on our tails at 30lbs, and Caleb finishing off with a bag weighing a grand total of 40lbs [He packed the generator and the blowing dryer {I kid, I kid}-- but pretty much anything we forget, we assumed he remembered]. We begin our long drive to Alambama around 9 o'clock and arrived in Alabama around 7 in the morning. At this point, we are drained-- lacking lots of sleep and the discomfort the van provided.

The first day was rough. We ended up having to hike roughly thirteen miles to get to our shelter. Our first 3 miles were absolutely miserable-- there were a lot of inclines as well as huge rocks that we had to climb up and over to venture our way on up the trail.

Nonetheless, the sights were awesome and made it all worthwhile!

This was a rad plane we came across

These are my fierce dogs

Two hours into the hike, Jake fell and sprained his ankle really bad. At that point, we had to chose but to continue our hiking and poor Jake fell another 2 times and had to watch miserably as his ankle kept swelling and bruising.

This doesn't do it even justice: {When we got home, Jake found out he had stretched some of the tendons along with severely spraining it- I give him hardcore props}
By the last leg of it all, we were thoroughly exhausted and so ready to be done. We got to our shelter and Caleb was out in a matter of seconds.

We rolled out our sleeping pads and sleeping bags, ate dinner [we made pear quesadillas- they were awesome!], and were sleeping by 6PM {When I say sleeping, I mean passed out}.

For all you Backpackers: This is an awesome idea, simply bring fresh pears, mozzarella cheese sticks, and mini quesadilla shells-- we sliced up the pears with Dave's pocket knife, pulled the cheese apart, folded over the shells and put the pears and cheese inside. Then we brown the shell on both sides, until the cheese was melted-- DeLISH!

Day Two was a beautiful day-- we woke up and took an easy morning finally deciding on a day hike so Jake could take it easy on his ankle. He stayed back to "wrap his ankle" and rest which also stands for SLEEP. Day two was fun because the weather was so nice out and as we ventured down into the valley it got a lot warmer and the particular route we took was gorgeous. We even came across a rad abandoned van out in the middle of nowhere- of course we had to stop for pictures!

When we got back-- we prepared dinner then settled in for reading time with Jake, while Ean decided sleep was a much better option.

Day Three brought a lot of rain. It was kind of miserable the first half because it was too nasty out to hike, plus there was lightning literally striking right beside our shelter. We sat around reading the Log book that had been left in the shelter for passing travelers to sign so we read that out loud to each other and pondered over the many questions the book asked [unfortunately for appropriate issues, these cannot be shared on here]. Finally around the afternoon, the weather started letting up and Dave announced that he thought we would be okay to go out hiking. I won't lie, I was kind of freaked about this whole idea because it had been raining HARD and it was super muddy out plus it was rumored that near the end of the hike, in order to get to the next shelter, we would have to cross a river. To me, this was not a good idea AT ALL. Nonetheless, boredom overtakes sensibility and we ventured off. It was a crazy good time in the end; all the simple streams had turned into torrent falls and the river we crossed ended up being about chest deep [in comparison to me and my shortness, this means I pretty much just had to swim across].

It all ended up being beautiful in the end, and we had a FANTASTIC view from our shelter we were staying at.

By the last day, we were all anxious to get a start. We ate quickly and started out on our last 10 mile stretch. The beginning of this hike was absolutely beautiful, we passed by four different falls that joined together into one river-- it was breathetaking! After this, I wasn't quite so excited, we had another river to cross along with a few other waterways to wade through.

About halfway through the day, I was feeling the exhaustion. I hadn't had my VIA for the day [not  having coffee is never a good thing for me] plus I was hungry and cold from crossing the river. I was mumbling on and on to myself something about showering, warm clothes, and pizza-- I think this is what kept me going. Just as I was feeling like the hike would never end, we came across a father and son starting off on a hike who told us we had about a mile to go before we were done, but we were going to have to wade through another river. I was both appalled and thrilled at the same time- I was excited to get to the van, but I was also down and out because we were going to have to wade deep in yet again through another waterway! However, lucky for me, these guys had no clue what they were in for! The crazy wading we were about to face came barely to our ankles. Thank goodness. Finally, we made it to the end and as a treat we got to shower at a truck stop [normally this would fit in my "gross" section, but when you haven't showered in 5 days, this sounds glorious! Best $6 I ever spent!] and we got the BEST PIZZA EVER at Mellow Mushroom. Don't believe me? TRY IT next time you see one, you will not regret it! {Plus the hippy factor is just awesome}
Overall, this trip was AMAZING-- I can't wait to see what is in store next!

Thanks guys for an excellent time; I wouldn't want to accomplish this feat with anyone else :)
