Today I learned how to sew...

Today I took a beginner's sewing machine class at Sew to Speak in Clintonville.
I had a great time; not only did I learn how to use that crazy sewing machine that's been sitting in storage for months but I also learned how to make that pretty snazzy wallet pictured above.
The shop is really neat with a lot of really awesome fabrics; I wanted to just browse around and buy all sorts of pretty material. D wouldn't be too happy with that I'm sure because I have a whole room full of random fabrics that I'm keeping to make something "awesome" with someday.
To take the course, the instructor has you buy some various materials needed for the class such as your own fabric, interfacing, and thread. You will also need to bring your own machine to learn to work off of. They want you to bring your own machine because it will be easier to known how to use your resources at home. I found this super helpful once I looked around the room and realized just how different each type of machine can be.
Not to worry, if you don't have a machine, they provide you with one for the class so you will still be able to learn and follow along.
As for the class itself, the instructor was fabulous. She was patient, helpful, and provided a lot of great information. She also took the time to stop by each of our sewing machines and show us how each of our machines functioned.
The steps were easy to comprehend and the instructor took us through each part one step at a time.
We also had plenty of time to practice to get familiar with our tools.
Thankfully it was a true beginners class or else, I would have been completely lost!
They also have a whole list of different classes you can take based on your level of abilities and techniques.
Needless to say,
I will definitely be going back!

So all you savvy little seamstresses should check them out and come join me for a class.
Who's in?!
